Here are some of the questions I hear most often regarding my work, and stained glass in general:
Q: Will Illuminatus Glass be installing the windows for me?
A: I'm much better at stained glass than I am at carpentry. It would be like having your plumber fix your car... so, no, it's best if I just provide my customers with glass art to be installed by competent professionals. If you don't have one on speed-dial, I have one local to Weaverville I can recommend.
Q: Is the stained glass window thermally efficient? Can you make it a thermal pane?
A: Stained glass windows are not thermally efficient, and attempting to create a thermal pane using one would not be worth the effort. Far easier, and more visually pleasing, is to mount the stained glass interior to an installed thermal-pane window. Also, keeping the two separate makes any future repair or modification to either the stained glass or the thermal pane window much easier.
Q: Can Illuminatus Glass work with clients who are not local to the Asheville, NC area?
A: Yes, I can work with people in remote places. I prefer to be able to discuss the projects face-to-face, but that's not written in stone. The main issue is shipping - none of the standard shipping companies have any concept of the word "fragile", so I would end up either delivering the finished products myself, or paying a furniture moving company to do so. And of course, I have to charge extra for shipping.
Q: Can I have Illuminatus Glass work a special symbol/image/idea into my piece?
A: Absolutely - in fact, I prefer it. The piece should have special meaning to the person commissioning it, and I will do my best to work it in.
Q: Does Illuminatus Glass do glass painting, etching, hot glass work, or beveling?
A: I am working to expand the capabilities of my workshop, and in time I will be adding some of these services.
